Enterprise Ireland's National Entrepreneur development programme

About New Frontiers

If you have an innovative business idea and are planning to establish and run your own company, the New Frontiers Programme can provide you with help and support to accelerate your business development and to equip you with the skills and contacts that you need to successfully start and grow your company.

The New Frontiers Programme is an Enterprise Ireland funded programme delivered by the Hartnett Enterprise Acceleration Centre in collaboration with the University of Limerick.

An outline of the New Frontiers Programme

New Frontiers is a three-phase programme, designed to provide an integrated and comprehensive set of business development supports to participants.

Phase 1: Testing your business idea

Held part-time over approximately a 5 week period, Phase 1 will help you to validate the market potential of your business idea. These evening workshops will provide information and general start-up training, allowing you to evaluate if your idea can be turned into a viable proposition.

Key benefits are:

Phase 2: Business planning

Following a competitive selection process, committed participants who have a strong value proposition and who can demonstrate that their business proposition has potential to grow and create jobs may be offered a place on Phase 2. If successful, you will receive intensive support for six months to develop both your own skills and to work up your business proposition. This will entail full-time participation in workshops, mentoring and regular reviews. Using this support, you will fully detail and validate your business proposition and identify potential customers, sales channels and funding options. You must be available for full-time participation in this six-month course. To facilitate this, you will receive up to €15,000 in funding, subject to satisfactory performance and development reviews. The aim of this phase is to support you in the development of an investor-ready business plan.

Key benefits are:

Phase 3: Business development

Businesses emerging from Phase 2 will be guided to the most relevant government support that can best help them at their particular stage of development. Further incubation facilities and support may be available to participants for a limited period, in conjunction with ongoing support from the Incubation Centre Management team.

What our New Frontiers Participants say:

“After completing New Frontiers we would recommend it to anyone who wants to set up a business, is open minded and has a willingness to learn. We started New Frontiers with a product and finished it with a rigorous business plan, the knowledge to deliver on it and €50K from CSF. The workshops, mentoring, advice and guidance that we received from our time in New Frontiers in LIT is beyond value. If you are interested in participating I would urge you to apply and to go into it with an open mind, an eagerness to learn and to interact in the workshop, with the organisers and with your fellow participants.”

Chris Ryan (CDK Technology). Participant in 2016

“The whole New Frontiers Experience exceeded my expectations by a mile. It was a great opportunity to work "on" the business instead of "in" it. The support, in terms of the workshops and access to facilitators, has been hugely beneficial. I've learned many new practical business skills that will be invaluable to the future growth of our business. I would have participated, even without the stipend!”

BJ Broderick, Wellnice Foods Ltd. Participant in 2016

"The NF program was instrumental in helping me avoid the typical pitfalls that one could take on the start-up grind of a new business, I wholeheartedly recommend the NF program for anyone considering a new business or service, NF was the most important foundation in our journey.”

Rob (TippyTalk) Participant in 2015

“The New Frontiers program was extremely beneficial for our business. I’m sure we would not be where we are today without participation in the program. Thanks guys !”

Will (Sunbear Technology /VT Networks). Participant 2015
